As ammonia synthesis shifts from fossil-fuels to renewable electricity, new technologies that replace the traditional Haber-Bosch process are needed to improve the capital intensity and agility of the process. Herein, a novel system is demonstrated in which single-pass conversion equilibrium is exceeded through integrated ammonia synthesis and separation with Ru/Cs/CeO2 and a specialized absorbent, respectively. The crucial characteristics of the catalyst and absorbent are detailed and the implications of an integrated system for the development of green ammonia are discussed.
