Hydrogen Refinery (H2R) plants produce low-cost hydrogen and ammonia from waste, using a carbon negative process. The ammonia produced is not only ‘green’ but also carbon negative and is the same price or lower than ‘grey’ ammonia produced from natural gas.
H2R breaks the link between the cost of natural gas and the cost of ammonia. Instead, H2R uses a carbon negative process to remove wastes from the environment, providing both a step-up in the waste hierarchy and the production of low-cost ammonia.
H2R plants can operate economically at regional scale, 100,000 to 1,000,000 tonnes per annum, making bulk shipments of ammonia and fertiliser unnecessary.
