The presentation draws on hands-on project experience in the development of a dedicated ammonia Floating Storage Unit (FSU), with a specific focus on the Gas Combustion Unit (GCU) as a critical safety system for port-adjacent ammonia storage. I will discuss how mature GCU technology from the LNG industry can be adapted for ammonia service, the key design and sizing considerations for BOG management in port environments, and the power implications for FSU system integration. I will also cover the relevant and evolving regulatory framework and make the case for early standardization of ammonia GCU systems.
